DESCRIPTION:The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is organizing the Second International Conference on Applications of Radiation Science and Technology (ICARST-2022)\, following the success of the first ICARST in 2017 (ICARST-2017). Since the discovery of X-rays and radioactivity more than 100 years ago\, different ways to artificially produce radiation and radioactive materials were found. The studies of ionizing radiation and radioactive materials has led to dramatic advances in radiation science and technology\, and they are used for a wide range of procedures in industry\, agriculture\, and research. Radiation technologies have been promoted for their merit in addressing important human needs\, such as improving industrial production and processes; better managing scarce freshwater resources; improving human health and food safety; preserving cultural heritages; and protecting our environment.

SUMMARY:CAEN Experimental Nuclear Physics Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will offer a hands-on experience in experimental nuclear physics\, providing participants with an in-depth look into both theoretical and practical aspects of the field. Attendees will be introduced to the equipment and techniques utilized by students in a Master’s level course\, covering Geiger Muller detectors\, NaI+PMT setups\, oscilloscopes\, pulser generators\, and CAEN emulation and educational kits. A highlight of the workshop will include the use of the newly acquired CAEN gamma stream with digitizers for data analysis. \nParticipants will also explore advanced activities\, such as alpha spectroscopy using radioactive sources and real beams at the CNA accelerator facility in Seville\, with nuclear reaction data analysis facilitated by the ROOT software. \nThe workshop will feature interactive seminars\, live demonstrations\, and hands-on sessions\, accommodating an audience of approximately 15-20 students\, alongside new and seasoned professors. \nDate and Time: November 19th and 20th\, from 17:30h to 19:30h.

DESCRIPTION:After the nuclear disaster in March 2011\, the Fukushima-Hamadohri area has become a unique educational ground for learning from both natural and social scientific viewpoints. Osaka University has been organizing the Hamadohri Environmental Radiation School since 2016. This year\, the school will be followed by the IEEE/NPSS Radiation Measurements School. In total\, a 9-day program will be held from September 9th to 17th. \nThe Hamadohri school includes soil sampling and soil measurements. Visits to evacuated areas and discussions with local people are also included. \nThe IEEE/NPSS program includes advanced measurements of the samples. SUMMARY:Multi-Aspect Young-ORiented Advanced Neutrino Academy
DESCRIPTION:The MAYORANA School&Workshop aims to foster collaboration among young and senior researchers in nuclear\, particle\, and astroparticle neutrino physics\, exploring interdisciplinary theories and experiments. Held in Modica\, Italy\, at Palazzo Grimaldi\, the School runs from July 4 to 11\, 2023\, followed by the Workshop on July 12 to 14. \nThe School welcomes 50 participants\, including doctoral students\, post-doctoral fellows\, and young researchers. It features 40 hours of lectures\, poster sessions\, mini-talks\, and face-to-face discussions with professors. Notably\, outstanding mini-talks and posters will receive prizes. Students are encouraged to attend the Workshop\, offering insights into cutting-edge advancements and challenges in neutrino physics.

Unique in France\, the General Congress of the French Physics Society provided\, every two years\, an updated and multidisciplinary overview of the latest advances in physics\, across all fields. \nWe enthusiastically participated at this event!

SUMMARY:RadioLAB INFN - Environmental Radioactivity: dissemination in middle and high school
DESCRIPTION:ISOradioLAb was born from the decade-long experience gained with students from Ischia and more generally from schools involved throughout the Campania region. The event on April 20th will see the students of classes 5A and 5B of the Scientific High School\, actors of the project\, present their experience and the results obtained. \nThe young researchers of the Naples and Milan Sections\, Giuseppe La Verde and Michele Colucci\, who followed the students both at school and remotely with meetings guiding them in understanding phenomena and analyzing data\, will also report. Professors Paola Dragonetti and Stefania Mercanti of Liceo Majorana in Lampedusa will also intervene and tell their point of view. \nThe event will take place in the presence of Giorgio Chiarelli\, president of INFN’s Third Mission Commission – CC3M and the school principal\, Claudio Argento. The schools in Pantelleria\, Eolie Islands\, San Pietro di Carloforte (Cagliari) will also be connected. The day will end with measurements in the field of radioactivity in different locations in Lampedusa\, guided by Cristina Mattone\, thanks to the contribution of CAEN that sponsors the event. \nThe initiative\, with national coordinators Professor Mariagabriella Pugliese from the Naples section of Infn and Professor Flavia Groppi from the Milan section\, “involves students on the topic of natural environmental radioactivity and\, more specifically\, radon-222 radioactive gas to bring them closer to understanding these issues\,” as highlighted in a note released in Naples.
