This week, at the Caen SpA headquarters in Viareggio, Italy, the Winter School 2024 took place, in collaboration with the Master’s program dedicated to Instrumentation and Measurement Science for Major Nuclear Research Facilities (IMSci-Nu) at Aix-Marseille University and thanks to the “Excellence Nucléaire Sud” project with a specific international mobility action led by Pr Christelle Reynard-Carette.
This engaging event spanned two days, featuring a series of seminars and hands-on sessions aimed at advancing the participants’ understanding and skills in nuclear research techniques.
The school began with an introduction to CAEN SpA, setting the foundation for the detailed exploration of several critical topics. The agenda included sessions on nuclear waste characterization and Decommissioning & Dismantling (D&D), an introduction to CAEN digitizers, techniques for Neutron-Gamma Discrimination, and an overview of the EasyPet System. Each session was designed to offer both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enhancing the participants’ learning experience.
The second day continued with a focus on Environmental Radiation, followed by a comprehensive hands-on experience with CAEN digitizers. These sessions not only provided valuable insights into the latest advancements in the field but also allowed for direct engagement with cutting-edge technology.
The success of the Winter School was a collective effort, made possible through the collaboration with the IMSci-Nu Master’s program. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and participation of all those involved, which made the event both productive and rewarding.
