Last week, at the CAEN SpA headquarters in Viareggio, Italy, the International Summer School 2024 was held, in collaboration with the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programme.
The event lasted five days and featured a series of seminars and practical sessions aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in nuclear research techniques.
The school commenced with an introduction to CAEN S.p.A, laying the groundwork for an in-depth exploration of several key topics. The agenda included sessions on CAEN digitizers, SiPM detectors, FPGA firmware generation, techniques for Neutron-Gamma Discrimination, and discussions on Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) defense strategies. Each session was designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enriching the participants’ learning experience.
The subsequent days continued with a focus on Environmental Radiation and CBRN defense, providing extensive hands-on experience with CAEN’s latest technological solutions, such as DiscoveRAD, RadHand 600, and GAMON-Mobile. The DiscoveRAD comprises advanced systems for radiation detection and analysis, facilitating comprehensive environmental and safety assessments. The RadHand 600 is a handheld instrument designed to perform spectroscopic radiation measurements and tagging of nuclear waste material and objects, providing high-resolution data for precise identification. The GAMON-Mobile is a mobile platform for real-time gamma radiation monitoring, capable of detecting and analyzing radiological hazards across wide areas.
These sessions offered valuable insights into the latest advancements in the field and allowed participants to engage directly with cutting-edge technology.
