On March 24, 2026, experts from CAEN Educational had the pleasure of delivering a lecture on natural radioactivity at the “Chini-Michelangelo” International Scientific High School in Lido di Camaiore (LU). The two-hour session involved two fourth-year classes and aimed to introduce students to CAEN SpA, while also providing them with a hands-on experience in the fascinating world of natural radioactivity.
The session opened with an introductory presentation outlining the company’s history and its enduring commitment to advancing scientific research, education, and technological innovation. This was followed by a theoretical lecture on natural radioactivity, addressing both environmental and cosmic sources. The lecture provided a clear and rigorous overview of the underlying physical principles, enabling students to connect academic concepts with their practical applications in contemporary scientific contexts.
Following the theoretical component, students took part in a hands-on laboratory session that offered direct experience with several of CAEN’s educational instruments. Among these, the Cosmic Hunter system was used to detect cosmic rays and observe high energy particles; RockyRad facilitated the study of environmental radioactivity through measurements of naturally occurring radioactive materials; and GammaEdu served as a versatile platform for real time gamma radiation detection and analysis.

Throughout the practical activities, students displayed strong interest, intellectual curiosity, and active engagement, demonstrating how direct interaction with scientific instrumentation can significantly enhance comprehension and foster motivation in the study of modern physics.
This initiative forms part of CAEN’s ongoing commitment to supporting educational institutions and promoting scientific literacy among younger generations by offering authentic, hands-on learning experiences with research-grade technologies.
