Abstract: TASS (Trigger and Acquisition System Simulator) is a comprehensive software platform developed to assist experimental physicists and educators in the design, simulation, and validation of trigger systems in high-energy and nuclear physics. TASS provides a realistic, interactive virtual environment where users can assemble and test complex trigger and DAQ architectures based on standard NIM, CAMAC, and VME modules, with full graphical representation and electrical behaviour emulation. Version 4.5 introduces major features such as support for user-defined module simulation via a Device Editor, enhanced TCP/IP communication for remote DAQ integration, and the ability to process external signal data files or real-time network input. Its powerful GUI and ease of use, TASS serves as both a simulation engine and a diagnostic tool for real systems, enabling break-point analysis, digital scope visualization, and hybrid use with real DAQ programs.
TASS is also positioned as an educational platform for students learning the fundamentals of triggering techniques, reducing the dependency on expensive hardware. The software and all its development tools are freely available at www.top1.it/tass, and contributions from the user community are encouraged to expand the library of supported modules.
