Environmental Radioactivity Indoor
Experiments

Radioactivity is often associated only with nuclear accidents or weapons. In reality, naturally occurring radioactive isotopes are constantly present in our environment, and their emissions can be safely detected and studied using appropriate instrumentation.

The experiments presented in this section introduce the fundamental principles of environmental radioactivity through a series of hands-on laboratory activities. Using the Environmental Kit and Environmental Kit Plus, students will investigate gamma radiation emitted by common natural and everyday materials, such as soil samples and camping lantern mantles, learning how to acquire, interpret, and compare radiation measurements.

These activities provide a practical introduction to radiation detection techniques while helping students develop a deeper understanding of natural radioactivity and its many applications in environmental monitoring, science, and education.
