Educational kits
This section is dedicated to the advanced instrumentations developed by CAEN for teaching the fundamentals of Statistics & Nuclear and Modern Physics fields.
CAEN realized different modular Educational Kits. The set-ups are digital and mostly based on Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM) state of-the-art sensor of light with single-photon sensitivity and unprecedented photon number capability. The goal is to inspire students and guide them towards the analysis and comprehension of different physics phenomena with a series of experiments based on state-of-the-art technologies, instruments and methods.
The devices are put together to form educational kits, suitable to a specified application. Moreover three educational kits, “Educational Gamma Kit“, “Educational Beta Kit” and “Educational Photon Kit“, are included in an “Educational Kit – Premium Version” that allows the user to perform almost entirely all the experiments proposed by CAEN. The “Emulation Kit” allows the user to perform a series of lab experiments related to gamma spectroscopy with no radioactive source and detector, but simulating the signals produced by the interaction of particles with the detecting unit. The “EasyPET” is a user friendly and portable PET system that allows the user to perform nuclear imaging experiments. Moreover, the “EasyPET kit” also includes an MCA allowing gamma spectroscopy studies as well. To increase the familiarity with the environmental radioactivity, CAEN designed several solutions to experience indoor and outdoor phenomena, “Environmental Kit”, “RockyRAD” and “GammaEDU” respectively. “Cosmic Hunter” is the new educational tool developed to inspire young students and guide them towards the analysis and comprehension of cosmic rays. Nowadays, the increasing of programmable logic devices use leads to the needs of the firmware development. CAEN develop an innovative kit, SP5650 – Open FPGA kit, to introduce students to the Open FPGA field programming without the expertise in specific programming languages like VHDL or Verilog.
